The Race Photos Are Up!
Photos from The Stef Tri For Life are posted online You can find them for the adult race, the kid's race and the tot trot at the links below.

Just a couple of quick housekeeping things. Many have asked how we did on the fundraising. The answer is...we arent done yet! Send links to the photos from your race to friends, family, etc. and show them that you did it. Then, let them know they can still participate by going to our website
www.triuntiltheresacure.org and donate on your behalf on the donation page. We still have work to do. Let's keep TRI-ing.

Also, please keep an eye on the website. I will post updates there under Event News so we don't swamp your email box. I know you get plenty of junk and don't want to add to it.

Here are the links to the photos. The photographer is making a donation back to the event for every photo CD ordered. There are some fantastic photos. You all look marvelous!

Ribbons of Hope

People much smarter and more creative than I have come up with another great and easy way to raise money for The Steph. Here’s all you do – email everyone you know telling them you are running in a triathlon fundraiser for cancer and ask them to donate $10 in honor or memory of someone they know who has fought cancer. Get the name of the person who fought cancer, and we will list them all in the race packets. Also, we are going to have a ribbon display in a prominent place at the race with each ribbon representing a cancer patient. Everyone knows someone who’s had this disease – just in our family there has been my grandfather, Stephanie’s grandmother, my mother and Stephanie. Then, when you are racing, remember that you are racing for the people who you raised money in honor/memory of. Not only will you reach the goal of raising $50, you will be doing something to support a friend who sponsored you for someone they love. Try For Five. I’ll bet you get more. As before, these donations can be made through our website at www.TriUntilTheresACure.org – just have them click on the Donation button at the top of the page. The donor will have the opportunity to list who they are honoring and who the racer is.

Two New Additions To Race Weekend

I'm excited to tell you about two new additions we've made to race weekend.

First, we've added a new fun run called the Stephanie's Kids Tot Trot. The Tot Trot is for kids 6 and under who aren't quite ready for the kid's triathlon. Their fun run will be approximately 1/8 of a mile and will finish at the big people's finish line. All of the kids will get a t-shirt and a finisher's award. This event will take place in between the kids race and the adult race. You won't want to miss this! Price is $10 per child. Registrations can be made at www.TriUntilTheresACure.org on the registration page.

Second, we have added a new category of racer called a Phantom Racer. Many people have wanted to participate but couldn't either because they live too far away for it to be feasible or that particular day doesn't work. So, Phantom Racers can race anytime (perferably that weekend or even on race morning), anywhere. Since thier times won't be official, they cannot be considered for awards, but every phantom racer will get an official race t-shirt and a video of the race day events. This way, people around the country, or even the world, can join forces that day in battling young adult cancers.

Will You TRI?

This year we've set a huge goal of being able to give away $75,000 from The Stephanie Johnson Tri For Life. In order to reach that goal, we've asked every racer to raise $50. That's it. Fifty bucks. So we wanted to give you some easy ways to let others help you reach this easily reachable goal.

1. Put it in your signature. Set up your email account so that the following is automatcally on every email you send out:

"On September 7, I am going to be racing in a triathlon with a special purpose. All of the proceeds from the race will go to support cancer research and to support families of young adult cancer patients. Even with insurance, the financial burden of cancer can be devestating. We want to help offset some of that burden for some deserving families. Please donate at www.TriUntilTheresACure.org. Click on the Donate link at the top of the page and list me as the racer you are supporting. The event, Tri For Life, is a project of the Congressional District Programs. All donations are tax deductible."

2. Send an email or letter with the same message to friends, family or co-workers who may not have heard about the event.

3. Help your kids raise money with a lemonade stand at the ball fields, selling donuts at swim practice, or anything else you can think of.

4. Ask your employer to make a contribution on your behalf or to be a sponsor for the event. Many corporations have money set aside for charitable causes and are just waiting for you to ask.

5. If you make a personal donation, make sure you take advantage of your employer's gift-matching programs, if they have one.We can provide our certificate proving 501c3, non-profit status. Also, any of your donors can do the same thing, which could double the results of your efforts.

Tell Your Friends

Sponsors and food donations are already lining up to make this year even better than last. Invite your friends - near and far - to be part of this event. For all of the advances we hear about in cancer research, the statistics for young adults (20-40 years old) have not changed since 1970. It's time to change that. Will you tri?

Keep TRI-ing Until There's A Cure,
Greg
